Lesotho to South Africa

Paying your South African suppliers from Lesotho.

Almost everything is bought from South Africa, and since September 2024 paying for it stopped being a domestic transfer and became an international one, with the delay and cost that brings.

How this corridor works.

What you pay in, what your supplier receives, and what to expect on rate, cost and timing.

You pay in
loti (LSL), from a business account in Lesotho.
Your supplier receives
South African rand (ZAR), into their existing South African bank account, under your invoice number.
Exchange rate
None. The loti is pegged one for one to the rand and the rand is legal tender in Lesotho, so what you pay and what your supplier receives is the same number.
Indicative cost
Priced on enquiry. Join the waitlist for this market and we will confirm your pricing with you directly.
Expected arrival
Confirmed with you when we open your corridor.

Context

Why this corridor is the way it is.

The loti is pegged one for one to the rand and the rand is legal tender in Lesotho. There is no conversion in this payment at all, which is why it should be the cheapest and fastest route we run.

Because there is no currency conversion in this payment, our job here is narrow and specific: remove the days that appeared when these payments stopped clearing domestically, and make sure the full amount lands. That should make this one of the cheapest routes we run, and we have priced it that way.

Who uses it

Common in Lesotho.

  • Retail and wholesale
  • Textiles and manufacturing inputs
  • Construction
  • Agriculture

These are the sectors that buy from South Africa most often and on the tightest schedule. If yours is not listed, the payment works the same way.
